Post-Whitening Instructions

Now that you’ve achieved the whiter smile you’ve always wanted through our revolutionary tooth whitening treatments,

it’s time to learn how to care for your teeth to keep the effect as long as possible. Over the first 48 hours after your appointment is over, what you do can have a major impact on maximizing your results and getting the bright, healthy, long-lasting white smile you deserve.

Over the first 48 hours, you should avoid substances that are known for their staining properties, including:

  • Cola and other sodas
  • Red Wine
  • Coffee and tea
  • Red sauces
  • Soy sauce
  • Berry pie
  • Tobacco products
  • Mustard and ketchup

However, there are foods that you can eat during these first 48 hours, including the following white or clear foods:

  • Water and milk
  • Oatmeal
  • Plain pasta
  • White rice
  • Baked potatoes
  • White bread or flour tortillas
  • Bananas
  • Cottage cheese
  • Cauliflower
  • Whitefish

Other things you can do to maintain your beautiful new smile include:

  • Using an automatic toothbrush
  • Seeking regular dental care, which includes whitening touch-ups and regular cleanings
  • Avoid habits known to stain your teeth, like smoking, drinking wine, drinking coffee, etc.
  • Practice good oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing your teeth, as well as your tongue. Your dentist can help you select the right products to take care of your smile.

Keep in mind that it is normal for your teeth to feel sensitive during this 48-hour period. If it becomes too bothersome, take the medicine that you would take if you had a headache. Your daily habits will have an impact on how long the treatment lasts, and habits like smoking, regularly drinking coffee, tea, or wine, can wear down your results faster than normal. Many patients end up getting a touch up roughly 6 months after their initial whitening appointment if they notice that their habits have caused their teeth to become more yellow.
However, as a general rule of thumb, you don’t want to over-whiten your teeth, as it can cause enamel to chip away and cause your teeth to be more sensitive in the long run. If you have questions about how often you should get your teeth whitened or what method is best for your particular teeth, feel free to contact our team today.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have to wait long to see the dentist.

Art of modern dentistry is an amazing place to get your teeth cleaned! Dr. Daftary is wonderful and funny. They have the best financial experts to help you get the treatment you need. I would recommend their services to my family and friends!

I've been a Art of Modern Dentistry patient for almost a decade at both the South Loop and Lincoln Park locations. Currently I go to the LP office and have to say these are the bets dental pros in Chicago. From the hygienists, to the doctors, to the office staff everyone is professional, nice, and wonderful at their job.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
